Thank you for this. I have instinctively recoiled against machines helping me write, even back to the days when Microsoft Clippy started to offer grammar suggestions along with spelling corrections. I thought it was just because I'm a writer and I take offense at a paperclip telling me how to say what I'm trying to say. But you gave words to my gut reactions: in writing, in storytelling, in creating, in life, the process (the why) is just as (sometimes more?) important than the final product. AI generated art may be more perfect, but it lacks the why.
This is powerful. Extremely well written and thought out. I agree on numerous points you brought out and applaud your creativity in the way you wrote this article. Well done! From a real person!
There are so many quotables, with this one standing out as I read: “Speed is part and parcel with progress, but time is required to cultivate souls.” I pray that this entire piece reaches many eyes and touches many hearts as it excellently articulates something of the necessity of remaining connected and of what it is to be a beautifully imperfect but alive human.
I wish I had written this. First, about people I don't know telling me secrets. At my first visit with a doctor, he opened the examination by saying, "My wife just left me." It happens to me all the time.
But the essay on AI is absolutely fantastic. I feel like printing it out and saving it. Thank you ever so much.
I really enjoyed this piece. There needs to be more discussion on what, who and how AI is infiltrating the world. Many things that are acceptable are not always beneficial. I agree the most hallowed path is to “Be The Life Within”. My son has it tattooed on his arm❤️
Thank you for this amazingly well written and sensitive discussion on how we should view the importance of the human element in writing and in relationships. I read somewhere that man is made in God’s image and so will have those moral and wonderful qualities that God gives him. AI is made in man’s image so we ought not to be surprised that it lies, is lazy, and naturally lacking in soul and moral fiber. I am forwarding this article to many I know. We are in the publishing business and I feel it is essential that we don’t succumb to the siren call of giving our work to a machine just for saving time or money.
Brilliant, Jessie Epstein! You put into words what others, like me, cannot articulate. This is an incredible piece and I’m better for having read it. Thank you.
Our lives are filled with multitudes of ‘easy buttons’. I do not want AI doing the work for me. The struggle in me produces the good work. I would be lying if I said it (AI) hasn't tempted me- I simply cannot trust my thoughts to an it. Thank you for this encouraging warning.
Each time I read this another page in my head turns and becomes illuminated. Such a gift for lassoing a thousand “thought cats” and making a clear, concise and delightful essay. Well done, Jessie

This is incredible! Absolutely love this.
Quite a timely (accidental) pairing with your own piece! Awesome stuff, Griffin.
Crazy timing! Adding this post to my recommended reading at the end of mine for sure. It’s brilliant.

Thank you thank you for this piece! It so perfectly puts into words exactly how I’ve been feeling about this whole topic!

Beautifully written piece which names what underlies the uncomfortable, icky feelings about the use of AI and ChapGPT.

Well done; well said!

Adore you, Mama Z! Thanks for reading. 🤍
I think this is an exceptionally well expressed piece. You've expressed better than I could my angst with the prominence some place on AI.
